How to Plan a Girlfriend Getaway Everyone Actually Enjoys

How to Plan a Girlfriend Getaway Everyone Actually Enjoys

Group travel is wonderful in theory and chaotic in practice. Here's the planning framework that makes it work.

The girlfriend getaway is one of the great pleasures of midlife — and one of the great logistical challenges. Getting four to six women with different budgets, different travel styles, and different ideas of a good time to agree on a destination, dates, and activities is genuinely difficult.

Start with a survey, not a group chat. Group chats about travel planning devolve into chaos within 48 hours. Instead, send a simple form: preferred dates, budget range, activity preferences, and any hard constraints. Present two or three concrete options.

Build in alone time. Even the most extroverted women need decompression time on a group trip. Schedule two to three hours each afternoon with no group plans — everyone can nap, read, explore solo, or do nothing.

The best girlfriend trips I have been on had one thing in common: a shared meal that lasted three hours, with good wine and real conversation. Plan for that. Everything else is logistics.
